Certificate in Midwifery

Bringing New Life Safely into the World

Program Overview

The Certificate in Midwifery trains students to provide essential care to women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. Midwives play a vital role in reducing maternal and infant mortality, particularly in rural communities where access to doctors is limited. Graduates emerge with the skills to conduct safe deliveries and promote maternal and child health.

Curriculum & Training

Students learn antenatal care, labor management, postnatal support, and newborn care. The curriculum emphasizes complication recognition, emergency referrals, and family planning services. Clinical placements at maternity units and health centres provide hands-on experience in delivering babies and supporting new mothers under qualified supervision.

Career Opportunities

Qualified midwives are urgently needed across Uganda, especially in rural health centres and district hospitals. Graduates work in government and private facilities, conduct community outreach, and educate families on maternal and child health. The certificate also serves as a stepping stone to diploma programmes in midwifery.
