UHI Campaign to Advance the End Polio Now Initiative in Lyantonde
In 2025, the Ubuntu Health Initiative (UHI), alongside the Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Lyantonde and St. Elizabeth Health Centre III, took a bold stand to protect children and communities from polio.
Through a series of impactful community health campaigns under the End Polio Now initiative, UHI and its partners reached hundreds of families across the Lyantonde community. Together, they worked to raise awareness about childhood immunization, provide essential health education, and deliver critical vaccination support.
The results speak for themselves: over 1,500 babies were vaccinated against polio, helping to strengthen community protection against this preventable disease.
A Shared Mission to End Polio
As the lead implementing partner, UHI coordinated and supported the delivery of health education and community mobilization activities. Mothers and caregivers gathered at St. Elizabeth Health Centre III to learn about the importance of immunization and polio prevention. These sessions empowered families with the knowledge they need to protect their children and contribute to a polio-free Uganda.
But the campaign went beyond education. UHI and its partners also provided essential health supplies to St. Elizabeth Health Centre III, including Mama Kits and gloves. This contribution is designed to support healthcare workers in delivering quality services to mothers and children, while strengthening the facility’s capacity to respond to community health needs.

A Collective Effort
The campaign was a true team effort. From UHI staff and volunteers sensitizing mothers on the benefits of polio vaccination, to the Executive Director personally taking the lead in vaccinating babies, every moment reflected a deep commitment to community health.
The Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Lyantonde played a vital role in mobilizing the community, while the dedicated team at St. Elizabeth Health Centre III ensured that services reached those who needed them most. Mothers and caregivers showed up, asked questions, and took action—proving that when a community comes together, real change happens.

While the fight to end polio is not over, the progress made in Lyantonde in 2025 is a powerful reminder of what is possible through partnership, education, and unwavering dedication.
