UHI Supports Teenage Mothers and Child Survivors in Lyantonde
In 2025, the Ubuntu Health Initiative (UHI), in partnership with the Lyantonde School of Nursing and Midwifery (LSNM), joined forces to bring healing and hope to teenage mothers and child survivors of sexual abuse at The Remnant Generation (TRG) Rescue and Safe Shelter in Lyantonde District.
The Remnant Generation is a community-based organization that provides a safe and supportive environment for teenage mothers and survivors of child sexual abuse. Through its shelter, TRG offers rehabilitation, restoration, and empowerment services to help young mothers and their children recover, rebuild their confidence, and work toward a more secure future.
Over thirty (30) teenage mothers were supported through the shelter’s rehabilitation and empowerment programs. Recognizing that recovery extends beyond immediate protection, UHI and LSNM brought together health professionals and student volunteers to provide a powerful combination of health education, psychosocial support, and essential material assistance.
Investing in the Health and Well-being of Young Mothers and Their Children
As part of the outreach, the team provided psychosocial support and counselling, creating a safe space for the young mothers to receive encouragement, emotional support, and guidance as they navigate the challenges associated with their experiences.
The LSNM student volunteers and UHI team also delivered maternal and child health education, focusing on practical information that can contribute to healthier families. Key topics included breastfeeding and childhood immunization, equipping the young mothers with the knowledge to make informed decisions about the health and well-being of their children.
Beyond health education and counselling, the partnership responded to some of the immediate needs facing families at the shelter through the donation of essential supplies. These included diapers, female hygiene kits, foodstuffs, cleaning equipment, and other basic necessities.

This outreach was made possible through the dedication of LSNM student volunteers, The Remnant Generation, and all supporters whose contributions extend health education, psychosocial support, and essential assistance to young mothers and their children.
